about the event

The Perth 700 is a new cycling charity ride happening in the beautiful town of Perth, Ontario. This Ontario Cycling sanctioned event has participants riding up to seven consecutive days during the week, choosing from two distances each day: a full century ride (161+ km) or a metric century ride (100+ km). This unique community-based initiative offers a scenic and welcoming cycling experience on some of Ontario’s best kept secret cycling routes! For this year, the event is capped at 50 cyclists, fostering lifelong friendships along the way.

Each participant is responsible to fundraise for the charity of their choice by setting up a fundraising page with their charity and collecting donations. We invite participants to set up their page with the hospice hub, which provides truly important end of life services to clients and families in the community served by the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital.

**What is Perth 700** Perth 700 is a unique new cycling charity ride happening in the beautiful town of Perth, Ontario. Participants choose the charity that receives the funds from their fundraising. This Ontario Cycling (OC) sanctioned event involves riding up to seven consecutive days during the week, with two distance options each day: a full century ride (161+ km) or a metric century ride (100+ km). The community-based initiative offers a supportive and welcoming cycling experience while challenging riders. Limited to 50 cyclists, it fosters lifelong friendships. Registration is **free**, but non-2026 Ontario Cycling (OC) members must purchase an OC community (or other) membership during registration. This ensures all participants have additional medical insurance and provides coverage for the event organizers. As a participant, you’ll cover all costs, including transportation, hotel, meals, bike maintenance, and possibly a post-ride beverage. Each participant sets up a fundraising page with their chosen charity and collect donations. We encourage participants to set a realistic but slightly ambitious fundraising goal. While fundraising, please inform your supporters that all donations above your charity’s minimum are 100% tax-deductible and that all funds raised go directly to your charity because you are paying all the costs. **Unsupported Cycling Event** Event registrants should be aware that this is an unsupported cycling event. Riders are entirely responsible for their own safety, navigation, equipment, and safety plan. They must handle any eventuality without assistance from the event or organizers. Given the unsupported nature of this event, riders are encouraged to ride with at least one partner. Solo riding is strongly discouraged. This means riders must be prepared to: - Handle any mechanical issues they encounter. - Have a way to call for a ride if they can’t finish. - Manage their own fluid and nutrition intake, either by bringing their own supplies or purchasing them at marked control points or other rest stops as needed. - Ensure they have the necessary technology to use the supplied routes for turn-by-turn directions or their own navigation approach. - Make their own hotel and transportation arrangements to and from Perth, as well as to and from each ride’s start. **Rider Expectations** Registrants are expected to adhere to the Perth 700 Riding Code of Conduct, which will be presented during registration. They must also supply their own, well-maintained bike, along with all necessary equipment and supplies for bike maintenance. Additionally, their bike must have working front and rear lights, and they must wear a helmet at all times while cycling. The helmet must be in a good condition and no older than five years. A working smartphone with a data plan is required, and they must have the following apps installed and functioning: 1. **WhatsApp**: A working WhatsApp account to join the Perth 700 WhatsApp Cycling community and stay updated on the event and organizer messages. 2. **RideWithGPS**: A RideWithGPS account to download the provided routes. An account can be purchased for $5 USD for one month. 3. **Strava**: A free account is sufficient for route control point check-ins. Details will be provided closer to the event. 4. **Google Maps**: A free account is needed to re-route in case of unexpected blockages. 5. **What3Words**: A free account is sufficient for riders to easily identify their location to others or emergency personnel. The primary event hotel is the Colonial House Motor Inn ([http://www.colonialhouseperth.com/)](http://www.colonialhouseperth.com/). Participants are free to choose any hotel, inn, or Airbnb for their accommodation. **Registration** To join the Perth 700 event, register by **May 23 at 6:00 p.m** using this [link](https://ccnbikes.com/#!/events/perth-700-registration). There’s a hard limit of 50 registrants, so we’ll maintain a waitlist in case of a sellout. We’ll offer cancelled spots to waitlisted participants in the order they were waitlisted. Waitlisted participants have 24 hours to accept a cancelled spot before it’s offered to the next person. The event organizers reserve the right to cancel a registrant for any reason. **_For insurance reasons, we can’t accept any onsite (day-of) registrations._** We’re excited to ride with you in Perth starting May 25. If you have any questions about the event, please email Jack McKittrick at perth700@mckittrick.ca
